A vow renewal usually takes place at a particular milestone in marriage eg 10 years, 25 years etc. However, there is nothing to say you can’t do this after 5 years, or even 1 year! Whenever you feel the desire to re-affirm your love for each other then that is the perfect time. You may decide to use the exact same words as you used the first time, or you may feel that your love has deepened and matured, and requires a different set of vows. There may be couples who want to commit to each other in front of their family and friends, but for one reason or another, are not willing or able to make a legal change. This may include older couples who have found a companion later in life, and don’t want to go through the legal process again. There are a few subtle differences to a wedding, while sometimes they may appear to look exactly the same. There is no legal paperwork to complete, and no legal words to say. In fact, the legal wording must be omitted from a commitment ceremony. Everyone in attendance must be made aware that we are conducting a ceremony of commitment, not a legal marriage.
